Amadeus North America Elevates Head of Sales Tom Cates to Chief Commercial Officer position

Cates to manage and build upon all aspects of sales, business development and customer experience for North America travel agency subscribers

MIAMI, January 22, 2008 – Amadeus North America today announced the appointment of Tom Cates to the newly created position of Chief Commercial Officer (CCO).  The move acknowledges his success in his previous role as Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Amadeus in North America.

In this new role, Cates' chief responsibilities will be to manage and progress the increasing level of commercial interest, profitability and growth related to Amadeus' technology and service offerings to travel agencies in North America. He will oversee the management of Travel Agency Sales, Cruise & Specialty Sales, e-Commerce Corporate Sales and Account Management, Consulting & Support Services, and Marketing for Amadeus in the U.S., Canada, Guam and Micronesia.  Additionally, Cates will be responsible for setting and implementing strategic plans for obtaining new business, as well as serving and growing the current account base for the North American market.  Based in Amadeus' Miami regional headquarters, Cates will continue to report directly to Kay Urban, president and CEO, Amadeus North America.

"Tom has played an integral role in the growth of Amadeus in North America by overseeing aggressive customer acquisition and retention while maintaining a best-in-class customer experience,” said Urban. “I am proud to appoint Tom to CCO where he will further guide our North American travel agency sales, marketing, consulting and support efforts so we can continue to provide our customers with the most innovative travel distribution and technology solutions that drive business growth.”

Prior to Amadeus, Cates headed up System One’s organizational development department, a role he held when Amadeus acquired full ownership of System One in 1998. In 2000, he moved to the sales organization as Senior Director of Travel Agency Sales and was promoted to Vice President in the spring of 2001. His responsibilities continued to expand and he was promoted to Senior Vice President of Sales in 2002.

Before joining System One in 1992, Cates worked in the banking industry, serving as Vice President of Sales and Management Development for Great Western Bank in Florida. In addition to System One and Amadeus, he has held various positions within the travel industry for companies including American Express and Eastern Airlines.

Cates holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from St. Thomas University in Miami.
