In 2009, executives expect to make fewer, shorter and cheaper trips, and switch from luxury extras in favour of basic efficiency and good service. This is according to a global survey of business travellers commissioned by Amadeus from the Economist Intelligence Unit.

47% of executives surveyed said they will be taking fewer trips in the next twelve months, and over a quarter (28%) expect to be downgraded from 4- and 5-star hotels. 63% of respondents expect their companies to use the economic downturn to extract the best possible rates from hotels.

As business travellers of all budgets shift down a gear, what are the hallmarks of good service to today's business travellers? What type of hotel is most likely to benefit from this new atmosphere of austerity?
