Travel connects us with the people and things that are important: our family, friends, business or simply the need to explore new places. At Amadeus, we are proud of the role that our technology plays in connecting travellers to the journeys they want, linking them to travel agents, search engines, airlines, tour operators, airports, hotels, railways and more. This pride in what we do has been reflected in our growth, the strength of our performance, and the increasing role we play as a positive corporate citizen, all of which are outlined in the Amadeus Global Report 2016.
In 2016 Amadeus further built on our past success by continuing to turn operational performance into financial success, delivering growth in revenues, profits and cash flow. Our IT Solutions enabled airlines to board more than 1.3 billion passengers in 2016 and our distribution business model continues to deliver efficient solutions for travellers, providers, and travel agencies.
We are continuing to invest in our platforms, ensuring that they are capable of delivering the flexible shopping experience demanded by modern travellers. By the end of 2016, two-thirds of air bookings processed through Amadeus were capable of carrying an attached ancillary service, and 120 airlines had contracted Amadeus Airline Ancillary Services for the indirect channel.
New Business Areas
We are expanding into new business areas with the integration of our 2015 acquisitions in areas such as airports and hospitality. We’ve also continued to move forward in areas such as Payments and Travel Intelligence.
As in any technology business, it is people who make the real difference. The Amadeus team – now more than 15,000 employees – provides the energy, creativity and commitment that enables our success. We are truly a global team, with a richness in diversity that reflects the customers and markets we serve. We embrace that diversity, but also work with a united sense of purpose to serve our customers and our industry.
Our people are also committed to using our technology and resources to help global travel have a positive impact on communities and grow sustainably around the world. Amadeus remained, for the fifth consecutive year, a member of the Dow Jones Sustainability Index; was included in CDP’s Climate A List for leadership in the fight against climate change; and, for the first time, was included in Corporate Knights’ Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the world.
Beyond formal compliance with the quality and quantity of information expected from a company like Amadeus, the production process of the Amadeus Global Report 2016 provides us with a broadened perspective to reflect on the challenges we have faced in the year, and with an opportunity to adapt and improve our approach to these challenges.
As we approach our 30th anniversary, we look forward to future cooperation, confident that we will continue to succeed by working with all our stakeholders to help shape better journeys, creating value for customers, travellers and society.
