2009 Introduces a new age of austerity for executive travellers

What type of hotel is most likely to benefit from this new atmosphere of austerity?

In 2009, executives expect to make fewer, shorter and cheaper trips, and switch from luxury extras in favour of basic efficiency and good service.

This is according to a global survey of business travellers commissioned by Amadeus from the Economist Intelligence Unit.

47% of executives surveyed said they will be taking fewer trips in the next twelve months.

28% expect to be downgraded from 4- and 5-star hotels.

63% of respondents expect their companies to use the economic downturn to extract better rates from hotels.
