Berlin, 4 March 2014: Amadeus, a leading technology partner for the global travel industry, and the European Travel Commission (ETC) signed today a strategic partnership to promote Europe as a tourism destination. This partnership agreement falls within the “Destination Europe 2020” strategy, a joint initiative between the European Commission and ETC to strengthen the image of Europe in long-haul markets through promotional activities and the implementation of new technologies in cooperation with major industry stakeholders. Amadeus announced the provision of the VisitEurope app in November 2013.

The European Travel Commission (ETC) is an association of National Tourism Organisations (NTOs). It was created in 1948 to promote Europe as a tourism destination to the long-haul markets outside Europe, originally in the USA and later in Canada, Latin America and Asia. It currently has 33 member NTOs, including 8 from outside the European Union.
ETC’s mission is to strengthen the sustainable development of Europe as a tourist destination and to increase competitiveness, trough knowledge gathering as sharing amongst members, as well as by establishing a professional marketing platform for the promotion of Europe in overseas markets.
