Specific content is a key driver for online travel management solutions

Companies are increasingly clear about their expectations of their online travel management solutions according to Amadeus, the global technology partner to the travel and tourism industry.

Madrid, Spain, 18 April 2006: Companies are increasingly clear about their expectations of their online travel management solutions according to Amadeus, the global technology partner to the travel and tourism industry.

Following a recent analysis of the trends impacting its worldwide client base, Amadeus highlighted that ensuring availability of relevant travel content for each corporation, such as low-cost carriers and web-fares, hotels, car rental and rail providers, is the key in factor determining a successful online travel management solution .

The days of online travel management solutions simply being repositories for flights on flag-carriers are long since gone,” commented Jérôme Destors, Director, e-Travel, the e-commerce division of Amadeus. “With the increasing popularity of low-cost carriers and rail, companies want to know that they have the options best suited to them via an easily accessible channel. However, savvy travel managers are increasingly recognising that taking the cheapest deal at a specific point in time, is not always the most cost-effective option.”

Worldwide, Amadeus’ local country management teams also highlighted the following elements as being key to successfully implementing an online booking solution:
  • The ability to incorporate low-cost carrier content into a corporate online booking solution
      The rise of low-cost carriers in Australia, Europe and Latin America has meant there is an increasing demand from business travellers to be able to view low-cost carrier fares alongside traditional carriers and integrate this content into their back-office systems.
      According to a recent travel survey of UK business travellers by Barclaycard, the popularity of low cost air travel has increased, with nearly three quarters (71%) of business travellers using it in the past year. With more travellers now wanting to be aware of their options in relation to low cost carriers, Amadeus has incorporated access to more than 75 low cost carriers through Amadeus e-Travel Management.
  • Increasing the level of hotel content within the online booking solution
      In North America most hotels belong to chains and are easily integrated into the system, but in Europe, Asia and Latin America it is often more difficult for companies to effectively manage their travel spend with the many independent properties that exist. Online booking solutions need to be able to handle this.
      In hotel content, Amadeus offers access to 61,000 properties having added more than 9,000 hotels over the last year, making it easy for companies to access both independent hotels and hotel chains.
  • Aggregation of non-air content into an online travel management solution
      One of the key issues for organisations is the ability to aggregate content. Companies want to be able to access content from local providers into their online booking solutions.
      In addition to air, for some years Amadeus e-Travel Management has provided access to hotel, rail, and car providers to ensure that the most relevant content to each market, and indeed company, is available. Indeed, in the year to March 2006, the number of rail bookings made through Amadeus e-Travel Management grew a massive 170% in the French, German and Swedish markets.
