China

Amadeus has three offices across China in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

Beijing

Beijing is the capital city of the People's Republic of China and the nation's political and cultural hub. Additionally, it is the focal point for the country's transportation, scientific and technological development, education and communication. Its present-day population is over eleven million, making it the second largest city in China. Beijing is one of the Great Ancient Capitals of China and has hosted the seat of government for much of China's history. It is the political, economic, academic, and cultural center of the country. Few cities have the unique historical charm of Beijing. Its wide thoroughfares, magnificent gate tower and memorial arch, and grand palaces all speak to the extensive history of this city. It also stands as a symbol of China's grandeur, history, culture and mystery. Beijing is also an approachable and visitor-friendly city. Changes have been taking place day-by-day in Beijing since China's reform and opening to the outside world. As summarized in a popular saying, Beijing is growing taller with more and more skyscrapers, while growing younger with improving living standards and a diversified lifestyle.

Shanghai

Shanghai is the largest city by population in China and the largest city proper by population in the world. It is one of the four direct-controlled municipalities of China, with a total population of nearly 24 million as of 2013. Shanghai is a global financial center, and a transport hub with the world's busiest container port. Located in the Yangtze River Delta in East China, Shanghai sits at the mouth of the Yangtze River in the middle portion of the Chinese coast. It’s also one of the most populous and most developed cities in China. It was once a small town supported by fishing and weaving before the first Opium War. Late in 1990, the central government started developing the area, and has since become the well-known booming metropolis city. Shanghai is split in two by the Huangpu River. On the west bank is Puxi, the older city center, while the brand new development on the east side is called Pudong. Shanghai is a popular tourist destination renowned for its historical landmarks such as The Bund, City God Temple and Yu Garden, as well as the extensive Lujiazui skyline and major museums including the Shanghai Museum and the China Art Museum. It has been described as the "showpiece" of the booming economy of mainland China.

Guangzhou

Guangzhou, known also as Canton, is the capital of Guangdong province and one of the most prosperous cities in China. The city is located at the north of the Pearl River delta, covering an area of over 16,000 square kilometers. It has a history of more than 2,800 years, with the longest history among the international trade port cities in the world. The Chinese Export Commodity Fair (Canton Fair) has been held there twice a year in the city since 1957. Guangzhou enjoys a mild sub-tropical climate with plentiful rainfall all year round, which makes it a beautiful city with evergreen scenery and flowers blooming all the year round, hence its reputation as the ‘Flower City’. It's also known nationally as the ‘Hometown of Fruit’ for its rich variety of fruits. Guangzhou is an historical and cultural city; there are many monuments of the city's democratic and revolutionary past. Nowadays, efforts have been made to build Guangzhou into an international metropolis functioning primarily as the biggest financial, high-tech and light industrial, as well as communication and transport center in South China.
