Dubai International Airport relies on UFIS Airport Solutions - a worldwide but by Dubai-standards small company - to provide its flight management system.

Dubai. Just mentioning this city's name brings images of the biggest, the best, the most luxurious. One website calls it the city of superlatives. It boasts the tallest skyscraper in the world. Its airport just opened the single largest terminal building in the world. Yet, Dubai International Airport relies on UFIS' solutions-- a worldwide but by Dubai-standards small company -- to provide its flight management system.
Since March 2000, UFIS, supported by its local partner Dubai Technology Partners (DTP), has been providing Dubai Airport and the Department of Civil Aviation (DCA) with part of its product suite. The UFIS Airport Operational Database (AODB), Flight Information Processing (FIPS), and Flight Information Display Systems (FIDS) have been in continuous operation in Terminals 1 and 2 for the past nine years. Additional modules such as a web-based staff information system and Data Changes, a data auditing tool, have been added over the years. Other additional enhancements and interfaces have been added to the system to provide additional functionality and information exchange required by the ever-growing airport.
When Terminal 3 opened in 2009, DCA extended the use of the AODB and FIPS to manage the flight schedules and to plan and allocate the terminal resources needed for the terminal.
Our AODB is the heart of the IT system. The AODB provides a state-of-the-art, fully scalable solution, combining the highest level of security with real-time performance. The most important function of the AODB is to provide a data integration platform for all IT systems at the airport as well as off-airport systems. Information from UFIS and other systems is stored in the AODB and is made available to authorized applications and systems.
Our FIPS supports airport operations by enabling the user to manage their flight schedules and to process incoming flight information changes in a real-time setting. As a part of the FIPS module, telex processing also allows for the interpretation of incoming telexes, updating the appropriate data in the AODB and making it accessible to the users. The apron management application is a rule-based system which enables planners and dispatchers to produce an up-to-the-minute plan for gate, stand, check-in counter and baggage belt assignment to individual aircraft. An easy-to-use rule generator is provided for the operators to develop new rules or edit existing ones to cater for changes in operational procedures and agreements with the airlines.
Flight information is displayed to the public in the concourses, check-in areas, gates, and baggage claim areas on more than 700 flat-screen monitors in Terminals 1 and 2. The web-based staff information application provides information to the staff, enabling them to call up flight and airport-related information relevant to their particular tasks.
According to Airports Council International (ACI) statistics for 2009, Dubai is ranked as the 15th busiest airport in total passenger traffic (up from 20th in 2008). During that year it handled 40.9 million passengers, a 9% increase over the previous year. It was also ranked 8th in the world in cargo handled (up from 11th), processing 1.92 million tons of cargo during the year.
