Special report: New age of austerity for executive travel

Executives expect to make fewer, shorter and cheaper trips, and switch from luxury extras in favor of basic efficiency and good service. This is according to a global survey of business executives commissioned by Amadeus from the Economist Intelligence Unit.

47% of executives surveyed said they will be taking fewer trips in the next twelve months, and over a quarter (28%) expect to be downgraded from 4- and 5-star hotels. 63% of respondents expect their companies to use the economic downturn to extract the best possible rates from hotels.

In this age of visible austerity, what services are indispensable to business guests? And what don't they care for? As business travelers of all budgets shift down a gear, what are the hallmarks of good service to today's business executives? What type of hotel is most likely to benefit from this new atmosphere of austerity?
