Norwegian to underpin commercial strategy by adopting Amadeus’ next-generation IT services

-Contract signed for the Altéa suite to manage multi-channel reservations, inventory and departure control. -Agreement will also support the airline’s plans to move into long haul operations in 2013

Madrid, Spain, 16 January  2012: Amadeus, a leading travel technology partner and transaction processor for the global travel and tourism industry, and Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA (Norwegian)  the second largest airline in Scandinavia carrying over 15 million passengers a year, today announce an agreement for the airline to migrate to Amadeus’  Altéa suite.

With this agreement, the carrier will evolve its use of Amadeus systems to incorporate the full Altéa suite of solutions in order to benefit from Amadeus’ ticketing, codeshare and interline functionality.

Adoption of next-generation technology will support Norwegian’s  IT modernisation programme, and equip the airline with the tools and flexibility to respond effectively to its customers’ changing needs whilst improving operational efficiency; preparing it also for long haul operations next year.

Hans-Petter Aanby, Chief IT Officer, Norwegian said:Our move to Amadeus’ Altéa CMS will support our medium and long-term business objectives to shift into long haul operations. It’s fundamental that our day-to-day operations are underpinned by modern IT processes that offer the flexibility to adjust our commercial strategy whilst servicing customers according to their value.

Jesper Söderström, CEO at Amadeus Scandinavia, commented: “Our objective is to provide advanced technology solutions, helping airlines respond to the changing needs of the industry. Our Altéa system is based on modern, open systems that reduce development costs and the time required to upgrade systems.” He continued: “The ability to recognise individual customers throughout the journey, using a single, integrated source of information is a key service differentiator and is at the core of the Altéa system.”

Amadeus now has 115 Altéa customers contracted worldwide. Based on these contracts, Amadeus estimates that the number of Passengers Boarded (PB) will be more than 725m by 2014[1].
