It’s January, also known as “wave season kickoff month” for cruise sellers. As part of Amadeus’ cruise marketing team, I’m excited to share four cruising trends that promise to make 2016 and beyond an exciting time to sell – and take – cruises! Here’s what’s on the horizon:
- More island hopping options in the Bahamas
It’s getting even better in the Bahamas! MSC Cruises recently unveiled grand plans to create an exclusive marine reserve island experience. Guests will disembark onto a 95-acre Caribbean paradise featuring beaches, a quant village with restaurants, bars and a spa, natural flora and fauna – and much more, starting in December 2017.
- Look for more ships, more fun at sea
Carnival Corporation has announced 17 new ships scheduled for delivery between 2016 and 2020. This equals more available beds to sell – and more fun times ahead for both novice and seasoned cruisers.
- Gastronomic pleasures abound, enhance the seascape
Cruisers will continue to seek diverse dining (and drinking) options. We are seeing this trend in all the new builds, as well as the refurbishment of older vessels. Whether it’s the new Gastropub on Princess ships, or exciting culinary options on Oceania’s new Sirena, dining at sea will continue to advance to new levels of taste and sophistication. (I’m getting hungry just thinking about it!)
- No excuses for cruise boredom – ever
Onboard entertainment and activities will continue to evolve to A-plus status. Pick your preference: ice skating, bumper cars, bowling, sky diving, rock climbing, ziplining, and “spaaaahing.” Think top-notch Broadway and Cirque du Soleil shows. Royal Caribbean has created a spectacular high-tech entertainment experience in their Two70 lounge. The Carnival LIVE stage features a plethora of talent – from Journey to KC and the Sunshine Band to Rascal Flatts. On a recent cruise, I was blown away by the onboard Aerosmith and Bruce Springsteen tribute bands. Put simply, boredom is not an option on a cruise!
Cruising with Amadeus
As the cruise lines evolve their ships, Amadeus continues to adapt our technology to take your business to the next level. In February 2016, we will debut Amadeus Total Cruise, our new booking platform that serves as your go-to cruise booking and management tool.
Agencies large and small will find Amadeus Total Cruise a booking time saver that offers more opportunities to sell more travel. You can search by port, see “starting from” pricing in search results, compare sailings from multiple cruise lines, book into groups, see live pricing – and much more.
Here’s to making 2016 the best cruise-selling year for us all!
