Amadeus Credit Card Verification

Be absolutely secure.

The main functionality of the Amadeus credit card application is to provide a payment authorisation request for the various sales supported by Amadeus (direct sales, indirect sales, call center, face-to-face, online…).
A payment authorisation request (also know as Credit Verification Service – CVS) is the way to obtain an approval or a denial from the credit card company or bank, handling the traveller’s account, in order to check there are sufficient funds available for the payment to be made.
This CVS request contains all the necessary information for the Credit Card Company or card issuing bank to make a ‘judgment’ decision on the transaction.

The main functions attached to the CVS request and offered in the credit card application are:

  • Address Verification Service (AVS).
  • Security Code: The security code or Card Verification Number (CVN) is the additional number on the reverse side of the card helps verify that in a ‘card not present’ situation the cardholder physically has the card with him.
  • 3-D Secure: authentication method developed by the card associations to secure the internet payments.

Benefits

  • Card Verification Service (CVS). The new and enhanced Amadeus Credit Card application is table driven, and therefore the implementation of either a new communication link or a new Airline or a new Credit Card may be performed with the utmost flexibility and speed, and with minimal Development costs incurred.
  • Address Verification Service (AVS). Address Verification Service will reduce fraudulent use of credit card by allowing a cross check between the billing address given by the passenger and the Address stored in the cardholder’s database from the issuing banks.
  • Security Code. The benefit of this feature is intended to provide the end user with an additional way to confirm the validity of the card when the card holder is not present.
  • 3-D Secure. The benefits are:
    - Fraud reduction: when a purchase transaction fails the authentication process, the Merchant is alerted to the possibility of a potential fraud situation. The Merchant must not submit the purchase for authorization if the authentication fails and instead ask the cardholder to use another form of payment.
    - Chargeback protection: participating merchants are given chargeback protection for authenticated and attempted transactions.
    - Interchange benefit: The issuing banks, under card association interchange rules, offer an automatic reduction/discount of fifty basis points (0.5%) to encourage take-up of 3-D secure
