At Lufthansa City Center, we empower independently-owned travel agencies around the world to offer tailor-made travel services. They expect us to be at the forefront of technology with solutions that are relevant to each market.
A few years ago it became clear to us that mobile was the way forward in reaching travellers. And we were correct, as today airline and hotel mobile bookings amount to 27 percent of all online travel bookings. We knew then that we needed to find a way to offer our network of 650 agencies in 90 countries a custom mobile application to take advantage of this trend. But there were many challenges. It would be too complex, time consuming, and expensive to develop a mobile app for each of our travel agencies independently.
So, it was only natural to reach out to Amadeus, our long time technology partner. The Amadeus Mobile White Label solution was exactly what we needed. Amadeus was able to tailor the application to the specific needs of our international travel agency network. We worked closely together to gather the specific requirements of our local agencies. These included things like market and agency selection for the traveller, the right technology to import a booking from any confirmation email and display all the details in the app, and specific agency contact details. We are currently implementing an advanced version for the interested partners that will include search, book and pay features for flights and hotels.
We are very happy with this mobile application because it ensures that our travellers are connected every step of their journey. Since the implementation, we have increased the adoption of the application by 250%, meaning more travellers are connected with us at every step of their journey. No matter where the traveller is in the world, they have access to a single branded app connected to their personal travel agency with the relevant local content. Whether they want to complete a hotel or air booking on the go or talk directly with their travel agent, this mobile application gives them the features they want and more.
