We are very proud to confirm that, once again, Amadeus has been ranked as the leading company in the area of travel and tourism by investment in R&D, according to the 2012 EU Industrial R&D Investment Scoreboard* – an annual European Commission report that ranks European companies by total investment in R&D.
This recognises our commitment to R&D and emphasis on innovation, with many years of experience in pioneering travel industry products and initiatives such as Altéa, which is now used by over 120 leading airlines, and more recently, Amadeus Featured Results.
We have sixteen R&D centres around the world, housing a team of over 4,500 people, and in recent years our efforts have been particularly focused on areas such as extremely high performance transaction processing, and pioneering the use of open systems in order to benefit from greater innovation, respond faster to industry change and reduce costs.
During 2011 we invested €347.5 million, an increase of 6.7% on 2010, to research and develop technologies for use in the travel sector – representing 12.7% of revenues. Our total R&D investment between the years 2004 and 2011 was more than €2 billion.
Nonetheless, our desire for innovation has not yet been satisfied and R&D will continue to inspire our evolution as a large-scale technology pioneer in 2013 and beyond.
