Yesterday, Apple held an eagerly awaited press conference and the company unveiled the content of its new operating system, iOS 6. Among the many new features, the one that caught the attention of travellers was Passbook. Passbook is an electronic wallet that enables users to store mobile boarding passes (and other documents) on their iPhones.
If you are a traveller and use mobile boarding passes, this means no more searching through emails or struggling with a poor Wi-Fi connection at the airport to retrieve your boarding pass. What a relief!
For airlines using Altéa Self-Service Check-in (internet check-in and / or mobile check-in options), it came as no surprise that Amadeus was ready to support this cool new technology when it was announced. They will now be able to make this new feature available to their customers, positioning themselves at the cutting edge of mobile technology.
And for those who don’t use an iPhone, we already have a solution that enables users of the latest Android phones and other mobile devices compatible with html5 to store mobile boarding passes on their phones. So, for users of the latest generation of mobiles, check-in just became a whole lot easier.
Airline IT, mobile technology, and innovation have all come together to produce some practical benefits for travellers. In the weeks ahead, I look forward to telling you about some of the other projects we’re working on.
