During the two day conference in London, Eyefor Travel gathered some of the travel industry’s top players to talk about travel trends, digital innovation, and new disruptive technology trends such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality or chatbots.
The impact that mobile technology has on personalisation in travel is one of those disruptive trends and Ghassan Teffaha, Amadeus global Head of Sales and Business Development Mobile participated in the panel discussion ‘Mobile Engagement and Marketing in a Multichannel World’. He explained that mobile is playing a disruptive role as the fastest growing means of bookings on all platforms. It allows the travel community to be part of the traveller’s journey in a unique way that must be capitalised on, and as such keeping abreast of the latest mobile technology applied to travel is key.
The opportunities for the rail industry were also examined in detail during the event. Antoine de Kerviler, Head of Rail and Ground Travel at Amadeus, was part of the panel ‘Partnerships: Enhance Physical Trips with Digital Tools’.
Having rail tickets on mobile devices via Passbook is a relevant example of digital tools improving the traveller experience, especially when travelling in a foreign country. Not only does it save waiting in queues but it also eliminates possible language barriers. Additionally, thanks to standardisation and increasing connectivity between railways and the distribution network, it’s possible to purchase tickets from foreign railways in a simple and straightforward manner. For example, Amadeus’ merchant model provides travel agencies around the world with one link to sell multiple railways with just one interface and one sales system.
