Amadeus is known for its forward thinking and innovative approach in travel technology matters, however every now and then it´s worth taking a look back at the road travelled to see how far we´ve come – here are just a few interesting facts from our past:
1. Remember these days? This is what a PNR looked like back in 1992. The first Amadeus Passenger Name Record (PNR) was created on 7th January 1992. Today, millions of PNR´s are created every day through our systems.
2. Did you know that Amadeus was the first European computer reservation system to have a product on the market for airlines? That was back in 1989. Today, our product portfolio for distribution and IT solutions for airlines has expanded considerably!
3. In 2006, the European Commission confirmed Amadeus as the first travel company in Europe in R&D investment. In 2010 Amadeus is ranked for the second year as the first travel and tourism company in terms of R&D investment. Continued investment in innovative IT solutions is central to the Amadeus ethos and we invested approximately €2 billion in R&D between 2004 and 2011.
4. Our data centre opened in 1990. Today, we continue investing heavily in our data centre to ensure the “heart” of Amadeus continues beating strong.
