It’s been a busy start to 2011, already we’re in February but we’d like to take a moment to look back at three notable events that have given us a positive start to 2011.
First up is the Amadeus UK team which was honoured to win the Best Technology Provider award at the Travel Weekly Globe Awards for the third consecutive year.
As UK Commercial Director Scott Davies commented, the ‘hat trick’, won in the face of stiff competition, shows that we are “fulfilling our aim to make the working life of all our customers as efficient as possible through the use of our technology”.

Over in the Americas, Kay Urban, president and CEO of Amadeus Americas, was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award from Travel Weekly. The award is described as paying tribute to those in the travel community “whose efforts have led to extraordinary results within an organization and who also have contributed to the industry as a whole”.
Travel Weekly’s editor in chief Arnie Weissmann went further in saying that the awards “identify the industry’s finest” and that the magazine’s readers “can be confident that these winners represent the best this industry has to offer.”
High praise indeed, congratulations to Kay.
Returning to Europe, Amadeus was recognised as one of Europe’s R&D leaders in the 2010 EU Industrial R&D Investment Scoreboard report published by the European Commission in early January.
The report highlighted €250 million investment in R&D that the company made during 2009, which itself represented a 10% increase on the amount invested in 2008. This commitment to innovation and developing new technology saw the company named:
- First place in Europe by total R&D investment in the computer services category
- Number one in Europe by total R&D investment in the area of travel and tourism
- Third largest investor in R&D in Spain for all business sectors
We’re delighted by all three accolades, and hope that 2011 is proving to be Brighter, Bolder and Better for all our customers, partners and readers of this blog.
