Amadeus celebrates the opening in September of its software development centre in Nice, France. An impressive development, it has been created in just seven months. A ceremony in Germany marks the start of construction of a state-of-the-art data centre in Erding, near Munich.

Work on the new GDS system continues in Miami. 400 man years are required to develop the system.

The first Amadeus national marketing company (NMC) is opened in Finland, soon after Finnair decides to join the Amadeus network. NMCs are also set up in Austria and the UK. Meanwhile, agreements are signed with Air France and Unisys to develop the Amadeus Fare Quote system, which enables the pricing of complex itineraries in a matter of seconds.

National marketing company (NMC) was the term used to describe a company specifically formed by Amadeus in a particular geographic area to promote its system and market its new products. This later became Amadeus Commercial Organisation.
